A Thrilling Performance at the Youth League Guadalajara!
Bronze for Jessica Vlai and Other Top Placings: A Thrilling Performance at the Youth League Guadalajara!
What a weekend! From 3rd to 6th April, Guadalajara was all about international karate youth: The WKF Youth League made a stop in the Spanish city – and the performances were truly impressive. Among those competing was Jessica Vlai, who secured a bronze medal in Kata with a determined comeback, providing an emotional highlight right at the start of the tournament.
Bronze Start with Style and Strength
The action began on Thursday with the U21 category competitions – and it didn't take long for the first medal to be secured. Jessica Vlai, who presented her new Kata "Vertex" internationally for the first time in Guadalajara, captivated the audience with precision, expression, and technical excellence. Although she was narrowly defeated in the second round, true fighters don’t let that hold them back: Vlai fought her way back through the repechage and rewarded herself with a bronze medal in the end.
"I felt really good and especially comfortable. The snap effect of the new Kata gi is just perfect. I’m more than satisfied with the gi," the newly crowned medalist proudly stated after her success.
A statement that not only reflects her self-confidence but also underscores the impact of modern equipment on performance.
International Power in Kumite
The Kumite categories also saw high-level fighting – and plenty of medals were collected. Particularly impressive was Polish competitor Katarzyna Lewandowska in the -61 kg weight class. With fast techniques, clear tactical sense, and remarkable consistency, she earned the bronze medal – a well-deserved reward for a strong tournament.
The same can be said for Dora Fleischer from Hungary, who impressed not only with her physical presence but also with tactical finesse in the +68 kg category. She also left Guadalajara with a bronze medal around her neck and a smile on her face.
Gold for Thuringia – Success Across the Board
Another highlight from a German perspective: The Thuringian Karate Association was there with an enthusiastic team – and was rewarded for its efforts. In the U16 -57 kg category, a Thuringian athlete shone with impressive performances and secured the gold medal. A true statement in a highly competitive international field.
Sen5 Team: Strong Performance, No Podium
Not to be overlooked is the Sen5 team, which competed with great passion and ambition. Although the big success wasn’t achieved in Guadalajara this time, the performances shown offer hope for the future. The potential is undeniable – and the next opportunity for revenge will surely come.
Conclusion: Emotion, Technique, and International Class
The Youth League in Guadalajara was more than just a tournament – it was a showcase for the international karate future. Young talents from around the world met, fought with passion, showcased new katas, celebrated triumphs, and gained valuable experiences. Jessica Vlai and others demonstrated impressively that they are ready to compete on the big stages – and fans can already look forward to the next highlights.
