Description

Show your skills with style and make your performances unforgettable!

Bō staffs originated as agricultural tools in Japan and Okinawa, but they were developed into important weapons in martial arts such as Kobudō, as well as other disciplines like Karate and Jujutsu, symbolizing deep philosophical and cultural values such as discipline and respect. Our Bō staffs made from premium poplar wood offer the perfect balance: light enough for precise movements and yet sturdy enough to feel powerful and stable.

Training with this Bō staff made from durable poplar wood promotes upper body strength and endurance, but also affects coordination and balance skills. They are often used in self-defense techniques and allow for dynamic and engaging performances with an overall fitness level that comes with concentration and discipline. With these holographic Bō weapons, you have everything you need – so be ready to make the stage shine!

With its unique history and a wealth of possible applications, the Bō symbolizes the essence of Ryukyu Kobujutsu and is inseparably connected to its tradition. These Bō weapons combine tradition and innovation, and their holographic effects add an aesthetic appeal to your performance that will captivate your audience.

Choosing the Right Bo Staff

Are you one of the thousands of people around the world training with a Rokushakubo or Bo staff? It's a popular weapon for Karate practitioners, and for good reason. Training with a Bo staff is great for upper body conditioning. Students can learn virtually endless techniques or tricks. Maybe you don't train with a Bo staff yet, but want to learn. Stop thinking about it and start now! There's no better time than now to begin learning a new martial art. Here are some tips to help you start your Bo staff journey.

Choosing a Bo Staff

There are four major factors you should consider when choosing a Bo staff. It sounds more complicated than it is – you'll see, it's all very closely related. The factors are: length, weight/material, appearance, and how you plan to use the staff.

Length: Jackson Rudolph, a member of Team Paul Mitchell and sport Karate competitor, explains in this video that the right Bo staff length depends on your size. As a general rule, when standing upright, your Bo should be about the same height as you. For creative competitions, you might want the Bo to be slightly shorter.

Weight/Material: Heavy Bo staffs are great for traditional or strength training. These are usually made from hardwood, like oak, and are designed for use in combat. Use these staffs only under the instruction of your martial arts teacher. Then there are lighter Bo staffs, usually made from white lotus wood, bamboo, or even graphite.

Appearance: Many people who train with Bo staffs also use them in competitions. In addition to length, you’ll want to consider the appearance of your Bo staff. Many competition Bo staffs feature a design that catches the eye. The Jackson Rudolph Signature Bo and Jackson Rudolph Professional Bo are staffs that Rudolph uses in his competitions. And always use a Bo staff cover to safely transport your Bo.

Usage: The usage is determined by a combination of other factors. If you want a Bo for sport competitions, you’ll want a lighter and shorter Bo that is easy to handle. For training and traditional competitions, it’s recommended to use a heavier and longer staff.

For Sparring: One important thing we haven’t discussed yet is live sparring. If you're using your Bo for partner training with full movements and strikes, you should not use a wood or graphite Bo. Instead, use a padded Bo, like the ActionFlex or foam Bo.

As mentioned before, there’s no better time than now to get started! Now that you know which Bo is right for you, you can check out these tips and techniques to begin.
